Computer Tomographie

In this lecture the main focus is on computer tomography. Starting with the physical background of X-ray, first a brief introduction to the standard x-ray imaging (radiography, fluoroscopy) will be given. We move on discussing the generation and measurement (detectors) of x-rays. We then introduce the concept of the modulation-transfer-function (MTF) as the main characteristic property of an imaging system. In the next section we deal with the mathematical methods, both algebraic iterative as well as analytic, for the reconstruction of the 2D (3D) image out of the sequence of 1D (2D) projections. Finally, we discuss the different artefacts, their sources and means for compensation.
